Search for man who disappeared into Allegheny River called off

Emergency crews have called off the search for a man who disappeared in the Allegheny River this afternoon, according to the Post-Gazette‘‍s news partner, KDKA.

The man, who is in his 70s, was putting markers in the shallow area of the river when he went underwater and was swept hundreds of yards down the river. Crews are expected to treat the search as a recovery mission when they return tomorrow, according to KDKA.

The missing man's identity has not been released.
