As they prepare to vacate the motherhouse that has been central to their order for nearly a century, the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth are preparing an estate sale this weekend of the antiques and other artifacts they have used at the Ross facility.
Everything from artwork to darkwood doors to furniture to a Victorian bookcase to brass lamps will be put up for sale. Even the bell in the bell tower is available.
The sisters, whose numbers are aging and shrinking, last year announced plans to sell the multistory brick motherhouse to Presbyterian SeniorCare, which plans a full-scale renovation of the house to use it for senior housing.
“There are so many rooms, so many nooks, so many crannies, that literally we’re finding so many new things every day,” said Mike Shaffer, owner of Holiday Auction Co., who is coordinating the sale for the sisters.
The estate sale is being held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday
