A Bellevue man found dead in his car on the Camp Horne Road off-ramp of Interstate 279 North Sunday morning bled to death from a ruptured shunt, the Allegheny County medical examiner’s office said Tuesday.

John Yuhas, 34, was en route to the hospital to get help when he collapsed in his car, Pennsylvania State Police said. Mr. Yuhas was being treated for kidney disease and had a shunt for dialysis. The autopsy determined his death was due to natural causes.

A person who twice drove by his disabled sedan Sunday called police shortly after 9:30 a.m. Troopers later discovered what appeared to be a surgical wound on Mr. Yuhas’ right forearm that had reopened and bled profusely, Trooper Robin Mungo with the Pennsylvania State Police said.

When police contacted Mr. Yuhas’ family, they discovered that he’d called a loved one to say his sutures had split and he was on his way to get help.
