Man charged in New Castle shooting death

A New Castle man has admitted to shooting and killing a man last week, police said.

During an interview with police today, Carlos A. Thompson, 37, said he shot Robert Quincy Brown, 35, New Castle Police Chief Robert A. Salem said in a press release.

Officers responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle near Sciota Street about 2 a.m. Jan. 30 found Mr. Brown, of New Castle, dead on the ground near a vehicle, the chief said.

Mr. Thompson faces homicide, murder, robbery and person not to possess firearms charges. He is in the Lawrence County Prison awaiting a Feb. 12 preliminary hearing.

He pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in 2001 and was released from jail in April 2013, online court records show.
