Ross commissioners Monday grilled department heads about potential cuts to the 2014 budget.

But, after more than two hours of discussion, commissioners had only erased one-eighth of the deficit, approximately $100,000.

The next move is to determine if they should borrow money or dip into savings to pay for a new public works building, fix heating, ventilation and air conditioning problems in the community center and finish the comprehensive plan.

Those three items amount to the $800,000 deficit. The proposed general fund budget is $17.1 million. The township has a $5 million fund balance.
