Gerald O'Brien resigned his seat on the Ross board of commissioners Monday.

Mr. O'Brien was elected tax collector Nov. 8, and said he needs the time between now and when he takes office in January to begin his initiatives for the office.

"I enjoyed my 14 years as commissioner," he said. "I never looked at being a commissioner as a job. I considered it an honor to serve you, the people."

His resignation was effective immediately, and was accepted unanimously.

Commissioners will accept letters from residents interested in representing the seventh ward until 5 p.m. Monday and will make the appointment Dec. 16.
