A Fox Chapel doctor will stand trial on charges he indecently assaulted two female patients.

Charges that he inappropriately touched two others were dismissed or withdrawn at a preliminary hearing Monday.

Raja Chakrapani, 59, sat quietly Monday afternoon while four women recounted their experiences with him before District Judge Thomas Miller. Defense attorney Patrick Thomassey questioned each of the women's credibility and motives.

The first woman testified that she visited Dr. Chakrapani about once a month to receive treatment for scoliosis and that he asked if he could kiss her. She said she told him no and that during her next visit the doctor rubbed her back from a hugging position, at which point she felt that he was sexually aroused.

She said she continued seeing Dr. Chakrapani because she worried she would become ill if she stopped receiving the narcotics he had been prescribing her.

Prosecutors withdrew the charges in that case.

The second woman testified that she saw Dr. Chakrapani for about five months in 2012 because she wanted help managing pain that lingered from an old neck injury. During one visit, Dr. Chakrapani slid his fingers down her pants during an exam, she said, and during another visit inappropriately rubbed up against her while he was sexually aroused.

The third woman testified that she saw Dr. Chakrapani for chronic pancreatitis, anxiety, asthma and high blood pressure for several years, although she was not sure of the exact dates. She said Dr. Chakrapani also rubbed against her.

Judge Miller ordered Dr. Chakrapani, whose license has been suspended pending the outcome of the cases, to stand trial on charges of indecent assault and harassment in those cases.

The judge dismissed charges in the fourth case.

"I'm confident that at trial the other two will be dismissed," Mr. Thomassey said.
