The 8th annual Elorapalooza, a 5-kilometer run/walk benefit to raise awareness of leukemia and lymphoma, is being held today at North Park.

Allegheny Health Network Employees organized the event, which is named for two employees' daughter. Monies raised will be shared by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as well as Elora's HOPE, a scholarship fund for students who are pursuing a career in special education.

To date, Elora's HOPE has raised more than $100,000. More information can be obtained by visiting www.ElorasHOPE.com.

Elora Geier, a North Allegheny seventh grader who died of leukemia in 2006, participated in 5-K run/walks before her death, according to her parents, Dan Geier, a physical therapist at Allegheny Health Network and Leslie Geier, a nurse caring for blood cancer/bone marrow transplant patients at West Penn Hospital.

The run/walk was set to begin at 9 a.m. at the North Park Boathouse.
