Richard (Tommy) Mc-Coy, who graduated June 7 from North Allegheny High School, was named a member of the 49th class of U.S. Presidential Scholars. He is among 141 scholars in this year's class who were to be honored June 16 in Washington, D.C.
• Meera R. Rathod of Cranberry, a third-grader at Rowan Elementary School in the Seneca Valley School District, has been selected to participate in the C-MITES Summer Program for academically talented students. Meera will attend the Explorations in Science class at Ellis School starting Monday and the Harry Potter's Science Adventure class July 8-19, also at Ellis.
• Six Fox Chapel Area High School students recently earned high marks on the 2013 National Latin Exam. Sophomore Rishi Mirchandani won a gold medal and a summa cum laude certificate on the Latin II exam.
A silver medal and maxima cum laude certificate was awarded to Katherine Holland on the Latin II exam. Magna cum laude recognition was earned by senior Jeremy Crites on the Latin IV prose exam and freshmen Aaron Ivie, Alisa Quemado and Sarah Schanwald on the Latin I exam.
• Highlands High School students Dakotah Yaworski received an honorable mention, Ashley Guillory placed fifth and Candice Kubican finished fourth in U.S. Rep. Mike Doyle's Congressional Art Competition at the University of Pittsburgh. Mr. Doyle is a Forest Hills Democrat.neigh_north
