A man who was fatally hit by a vehicle this morning in Fawn has been identified as 62-year-old John Walters.

Township police Chief Timothy Mayberry said Mr. Walters, of Fawn, walked every day along Howes Run Road, where he was struck about 9:49 a.m.

The driver who hit him stopped, called 911 and started to perform CPR before the man died.

Mr. Walters was walking and, for reasons that aren't clear, appears to have inadvertently moved into the traffic lane, the chief said.

Allegheny County homicide detectives were at the scene early this afternoon. Chief Mayberry said while the crash is under investigation, it appears to have been accidental.

The driver of the vehicle was a teenager from the area. He was emotionally distraught after the incident and was evaluated at a local hospital before being released to his family, the chief said.
