Correction/Clarification: (Published May 14, 2013) In a previous version of this story, state police said that Joseph Lupo had died from a head wound. That was incorrect. They now say that Mr. Lupo is in critical condition at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio.

Pennsylvania State Police said today that Joseph Lupo, 50, has been upgraded to critical condition by St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio, after a domestic shooting Sunday in Lawrence County.

He was shot in the head, and his wife, Caroline Lupo, 50, was shot in the abdomen and leg at about 11:45 p.m. at a Mahoning residence, state police said. Both were taken to St. Elizabeth's. Ms. Lupo was in serious condition after surgery Monday, police said.

State police in New Castle had written in a press release Monday that Mr. Lupo died from his injury at the hospital.

Additional information was unavailable Tuesday night, as state police are waiting to conduct an interview with Ms. Lupo when her condition stabilizes. State police continue to investigate.
