The North Hills school board on Monday approved the district's final proposed budget of $69,747,422 for 2013-2014. The proposal represents a 1.6 percent increase over the previous year's budget, or a little more than $1.1 million dollars.

The budget lowers the property tax rate from 21.26 mills to 16.93 mills. The millage rate will be recalculated, however, before the final budget passes following the release of new property tax assessment figures in May from Allegheny County.

For a home in the district worth the median value of $135,000, the median property tax rate bill would decrease $32 from the previous year.

The vote to adopt the final budget is planned for June 3. The proposed final budget is available in the interim for inspection and public comment online and at district offices located at 135 Sixth Ave. in Ross.
