Truck released from jail after confrontation with police

A Butler County truck driver has been released from jail following a confrontation with state police.

Earl R. Sanderson, 44, of West Sunbury, is charged with driving the under the influence, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and simple assault.

A news release from the police barracks at Butler indicates that the incident began to unfold Saturday night when Mr. Sanderson lost control of his commercial tractor trailer and it struck a culvert on Halston Road in Clay, Butler County. Police said the tractor's load was dumped but didn't indicate the contents of the load or how long the road was shut down.

Police said Mr. Sanderson became disorderly with officers after his wife, Christine, 39, arrived at the scene. A "physical confrontation" with a trooper ensued. No other details were given by police.

Mr. Sanderson was jailed at about 11 p.m. He has been released on $30,000 bail, according to court records.
