Ross police are investigating the seemingly orchestrated theft of high-end designer purses from a store at Ross Park Mall.

Police said five people entered the Louis Vuitton store at the mall about 8 p.m. Thursday and appeared, based on surveillance video, to be working together to steal a number of purses.

Police and store officials today were trying to determine how many purses were missing and their value. An Internet search on the value of the purses shows they range in price from $1,300 to $7,500, depending on the style.

Employees attempted to confront the group, a mix of men and women in their 20s and 30s, but they ran out of the store, police said. No one was injured and no customers were ever in danger, officers said.

Police were interviewing witnesses to try to get better descriptions of the thieves.
