A 17-year-old Marine has decided not to wear her dress uniform when she graduates from North Allegheny High School, even though school officials did an about-face and said she could after first denying the request.

Lindsay Starr first told KDKA-TV that she wanted to wear the uniform because she's proud of it and the sacrifices other Marines have made for public school students and everybody else in the United States.

Officials at North Allegheny at first said all graduates have to wear a cap and gown but relented after people at the school and community spoke in favor of Ms. Starr's preference.

But now, a local Marine recruiting spokeswoman says Ms. Starr has changed her mind. Sgt. Lynn Kinney says she had a heartfelt talk with Ms. Starr about the issue and also told her it wouldn't even be wise to wear the uniform under her cap and gown.
