The Allegheny County Health Department is warning Oakmont area residents about possible exposure to a rabid bat at Riverside Park two weeks ago.

The department said the bat was found near the Third Street baseball field where children were playing. Anyone who had contact with the bat that resulted in a scratch, bite or contact with its saliva should contact the department at 412-687-2243 to determine whether medical treatment is needed.

The bat is the 11th rabid animal reported to the department this year, including five bats, two cats, two raccoons and two groundhogs. The department reported 18 rabid animals last year.
