Police investigate suspected arson in New Kensington

Police in New Kensington are investigating a suspected arson that destroyed a three-story home early Sunday morning. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were called to the brick house at 252 Ridge Ave. just before 3 a.m., said New Kensington First Assistant Chief Ed Saliba Jr.

The New Kensington Police rescued three children and two adults from the house, he added.

A neighboring home at 254 Ridge Ave. also caught fire, the chief said, estimating the damage at about $20,000 to $25,000.

A state fire marshal investigating the blaze ruled it had been intentionally set, though Chief Saliba could not provide additional details.
