The death Sunday of a Turtle Creek man was ruled a homicide today by the Allegheny County medical examiner's office.

James Payne, 58, died of head trauma Sunday afternoon at Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville, a representative from that office said.

Mr. Payne is said to have engaged in an altercation with a neighbor prior to his admittance to Forbes Regional a day earlier, that office has said. Details of that interaction were not immediately available today.

Turtle Creek police did not immediately return calls. Allegheny County police, who are leading the investigation, did not have details of the case early this afternoon.
