Two men were arrested early this morning in connection with a Penn Hills shooting death Wednesday afternoon.
Allegheny County police said Traevon Nicholson and Marshall Thompson, both 18, have been charged with homicide, conspiracy and weapons violations in the death of Jose Alberto Negron Fernandez, 21.
At about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Penn Hills police responded to a shooting in the 100 block of Third Street. They found Mr. Fernandez shot once in the chest, on the ground, near what they believed was his car, county police Lt. Andrew Schurman said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said Mr. Fernandez was involved in a drug deal at the time of the shooting and was possibly being robbed before he was shot.
The suspects are being held at the Allegheny County Jail awaiting arraignment.
The area in which Mr. Fernandez was shot intersects with the 4800 block of Verona Road and is used as an unauthorized park-and-ride. The shooting happened within a few feet of Debbie Kuntz’s vehicle.
”Oh my God. … I'm not in a neighborhood where you think of that happening," said Ms. Kuntz, 55, of Penn Hills, who’s carpooled to work for seven years and Wednesday parked her vehicle farther down Third Street than usual.
