State Fire Commissioner Ed Mann has informed North Versailles commissioners that he will repossess the Crestas Terrace Fire Department’s truck unless the department can come up with $21,605 within 30 days.

The $21,605 is the past due principal and interest on a loan taken from the Volunteer Fire Companies Loan Fund administered by the fire commissioner.

Mr. Mann also said the fire department must make its loan payments on time for six months to keep the truck.

George Thompson, township commissioners president, said the fire department had received repossession threats against the truck many times before.

Commissioner George Beswick said he offered earlier to help Crestas Terrace officers devise a financial plan to pay off the debt, but they didn’t take him up on his offer.

In other action at Thursday's meeting, the commissioners voted unanimously to enact an ordinance that will require renters living in properties with delinquent real estate taxes to pay rent directly to the township until

the taxes are paid off.
