An Indiana County woman is in jail awaiting arraignment on charges of endangering the welfare of her two young children.

Melissa Cassatt,  of Homer City, left her sons, ages 2 and 4, unattended several times while she slept, Pennsylvania State Police in the Indiana barracks said in a press release.

One morning, the 4-year-old crossed Route 403 to see his grandfather, and the 2-year-old was later found with a soiled diaper, police said.

Neither child was in need of medical attention, but authorities notified Indiana County Children and Youth Services and Ms. Cassatt was taken into custody. The children's grandparents will care for them while their father is at work, state police said.

Ms. Cassatt also is charged with reckless endangerment.
