Derek Jones, a junior, was stabbed in the back in the attack on Wednesday and spent five hours in surgery that day at Forbes Hospital. His aunt, Joy Wyler, said that a kidney was severed and had to be removed. After a second round of surgery, Derek was back in the ICU on Saturday and has been placed on a respirator.
Derek, 17, has been in the school district since kindergarten. He plays guitar, sings in a chorus and is on a bowling team.
