The Citizens Bridge carrying Butler Road/Business Route 422 over the Allegheny River in Kittanning will have a new traffic pattern starting today, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced.

Starting a 7 a.m., flaggers will control traffic as barriers are placed for the new pattern, which will restrict traffic to one direction, toward West Kittanning. The bridge will be closed in the direction toward Kittanning through October while the bridge is painted.

Traffic will be redirected to the Route 28/Route 422 bridge over the Allegheny.

Also, traffic on Allegheny Avenue from Applewold will not have access to Butler Road/Business 422.

PennDOT had earlier announced the closure would take effect Thursday.
