Unity — Westmoreland Museum of American Art will host an opening reception for the exhibit But I Am the Fire with during its monthly Art on Tap happy hour from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at its temporary location, Westmoreland @rt 30, 4764 Lincoln Highway. A salon with artist Laurie Trok will be held at 6 p.m. Jan. 23. Information: 724-837-1500.


Greensburg — The Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra will hold the winners’ recital for its annual Young Artists Competition at 3 p.m. Feb. 9 at Seton Hill University’s Performing Arts Center, 100 Harrison Ave. The competition is open to classical instrumentalists and vocalists who are residents of either Westmoreland or Fayette County or take private music lessons in either of those two counties and have not yet graduated from high school. The registration deadline is Monday for recorded auditions, and live auditions for those selected will take place on Feb. 2. Information: 724-837-1850.


Penn Hills — The recreation and parks department will offer swimming lessons to children 6 months and older on Saturdays beginning Saturday at the sports complex at Gateway High School, 3000 Gateway Campus Blvd. Times depend on level. The cost is $35-$40. Registration: 412-856-1006.


Hempfield — The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg, 150 Finoli Drive, will present the PM Woodwind Project at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Mary Lou Campana Chapel and Lecture Center as part of the Joan Chambers Concert Series. Information: 724-836-7741.


McKeesport — The Second Stage Players of the McKeesport Little Theater, 1614 Coursin St., will present “Shrek the Musical” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday and again Jan. 17 and 18 and 2 p.m. Sunday and Jan. 19. Tickets cost $15, $7 for children. Lunch with Shrek will be offered at 12:30 p.m. Jan. 19. Information: 412-673-1100.
