Two men were sentenced Monday for killing a Braddock Hills man last year.
Quintelle Rankin, who fired the shots that killed Brandon Johns, 18, on Aug. 7, 2012, was sentenced to life in prison without parole plus 8 1⁄2 years to 17 years for second-degree murder, robbery, conspiracy and a firearms violation.
Eugene McCarthy, who was found guilty of third-degree murder, robbery and conspiracy was sentenced by Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Anthony M. Mariani to 13 to 26 years in prison.
A jury found both Rankin, 22, and McCarthy, 24, guilty on Aug. 19.
According to police, Johns was killed after the two defendants tried to rob him when he was selling them marijuana from the stairwell of his grandmother’s apartment at Brinton Manor apartment complex.
Johns pulled a gun to defend himself, and prosecutors say Rankin pulled a gun and shot the victim several times.
