Only 14 months after it opened, a Wilkins restaurant and bar is scheduled to be padlocked this morning for failure to pay $65,000 in Allegheny County drink tax, the county treasurer's office announced today.

Sheriff's deputies will lock up the Brewstone Beer Co. at 3466 William Penn Highway for being "habitually delinquent" and not reporting or paying the alcoholic drink tax, Treasurer John Weinstein said in a press release.

The restaurant, which opened in July 2012, paid the duty only once -- in the first month, according to the treasurer's office.

"It is patently unfair to their patrons, and other taxpaying establishments, for these delinquent accounts not to be held responsible for not remitting the collected tax," the treasurer said in the release. "They have been given every opportunity to comply prior to this point but have chosen not to. They leave us no choice but to padlock their establishment for not remitting the collected tax."

No one answered a phone number listed for the restaurant this morning. According to its website, Brewstone has two other locations in Indianapolis and Chicago and plan to open two others in Ohio and Philadelphia.

Brewstone representatives are in contact with the treasurer's office's attorney and have until 4:30 p.m. to pay the outstanding balance if they want to reopen tonight.
