The Allegheny County medical examiner's office has identified a woman found shot to death Tuesday night in Homewood.

An autopsy conducted Wednesday on Samantha Powe, 30, of Garfield ruled she died from gunshot wounds to the head. The death was ruled a homicide, according to the Allegheny County medical examiner's office.

A passerby spotted Ms. Powe lying face down on the ground at a dead end on Hallam Street in Homewood shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday, Major Crimes Lt. Daniel Herrmann said in a news release.

Homicide detectives noticed that she had been shot, and a neighbor later told police they thought someone had fired gunshots in the area around 3:45 p.m.
