A man driving a tractor was killed this afternoon in a lawn mowing incident on a Westmoreland County golf course, authorities said.

Dennis D. Miller, 66, of Leechburg, Armstrong County, was an employee of Cherry Wood Golf Course in Bell and was driving a tractor pulling a seven-gang reel mower, Westmoreland County Coroner Kenneth A. Bacha said.

For an unknown reason, the coroner said, Mr. Miller "was separated from the tractor and became entrapped in the mower reels."

Mr. Miller was pronounced dead at 4:48 p.m. The cause and manner of death are pending the results of an autopsy that will be performed Wednesday, the coroner said.

When reached by phone, a representative from the golf course, which is on Truxall Road, said she could not provide any information.

Bell township police and the county detective bureau are investigating.
