Remains discovered in Somerset County

Pennsylvania State Police and forensic anthropologists are investigating what might be human remains discovered Sunday in a wooded area in Somerset County.

In a news release, state police said someone walking in the woods discovered the remains near the Great Allegheny Passage in Larimer Township about 12:30 p.m. The person called state police, whose investigators said the remains "appear to be human."

Forensic anthropologist Dennis Dirkmaat and his crew from Mercyhurst University in Erie went to the scene Monday to investigate.

State police said they would release more information at a news conference today.
