Residents encouraged to shop local
The Penn Hills Community Development Corp. is holding a Shop Local contest this month.
Forty-six businesses have donated more than $1,500 worth of prizes for shoppers. Prizes will be awarded for spending the most money and patronizing the most businesses. Anyone who shops at 10 or more participating businesses is eligible for door prize drawings.
Contest details and complete list of participating businesses are available on the development corporation's website at pennhillscdc.org.
Forum to discuss shale drilling impact
A public forum will discuss concerns over shale gas drilling and its potential impact on the Beaver Run Reservoir. The reservoir supplies water for 150,000 Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County customers in Westmoreland County and, beginning in 2016, for residents of Monroeville and Plum.
The Mountain Watershed Association will provide information at the end of the evening about water monitoring opportunities for residents.
The forum's sponsors -- the League of Women Voters, the Local Authority of Western Pennsylvania, the Westmoreland Green Party and the Mountain Watershed Association -- have invited a panel of experts and local officials to address citizens' questions.
The forum will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Murrysville Community & Senior Center, 3091 Carson Ave., Murrysville.
