It's party time in Verona.
The borough's ninth annual Fall Festival will run from 6 to 11 p.m. today through Saturday in the parklet next to the municipal building on East Railroad Avenue.
It is sponsored by the Verona Fall Festival Committee.
Windstorm will perform tonight and Saturday. Friday will be "Be a Star Night" with karaoke. The Bearded Irishmen will perform from 7 to 9?that evening.
There will be dancing in the streets on Saturday and nightly bingo.
Money raised from food sales, rides and games will be used to support local clubs and organizations and provide scholarships to local high school students. Last year, three $500 scholarships were awarded.
The festival came about after residents Ann and Kevin Larkin visited different community carnivals and festivals and thought Verona should hold a similar event.
Mrs. Larkin said they pitched the idea to council and the chamber of commerce, and got their support.
Mrs. Larkin asked Peggy Suchevich to get involved, and the idea took off.
"The first event was such a success it kept on going," Ms. Suchevich said.
"The festival is truly family-oriented, affordable fun," Mrs. Larkin said, adding it wasn't unusual to see families there every night.
Ms. Suchevich said organizers try to keep prices at a minimum.
"It is a great opportunity for families to come out and spend a fun evening with each other and their neighbors."
