A North Huntingdon police officer was injured and flown to Allegheny General Hospital Wednesday night after his motorcycle crashed into a car on Route 30.

Irwin Acting Police Chief Joseph Pocsatko said that Officer Carl Steinkopf Jr. was on patrol at about 9:45 Wednesday night, driving his motorcycle west in the left lane of Route 30 through Irwin when the accident occurred.

Marcia Lavelle, 47, of Irwin was making a left turn out of Dunkin Donuts onto Route 30, with her 20-year-old daughter in the car.

Chief Pocsatko said that when she pulled out, she was struck by Officer Steinkopf's motorcycle.

The chief said Officer Steinkopf was in fair condition yesterday and may have a broken wrist.

Ms. Lavelle was not injured, but her daughter, Kristin Lavelle, was taken to the hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries.

The incident is still under investigation, but Chief Pocsatko said Ms. Lavelle may be issued traffic citations.
