Three former Braddock Hills police officers filed a federal lawsuit yesterday against the borough, the mayor, the police chief and a councilman for wrongful termination.

Former Sgts. Jeffrey Stockman and William Lekovitch and former patrolman Brian Wyke filed the suit, alleging that they were fired because of their outspokenness regarding contract negotiations, among other reasons.

The claims listed in the 23-page suit include violations of their First Amendment right to free speech, their 14th Amendment right to due process and breach of contract.

Mr. Stockman was originally furloughed from his position in December 2004. He challenged that ruling but ultimately was let go in September. Mr. Lekovitch and Mr. Wyke were also furloughed in December 2004. The reason cited by the borough for that termination was "financial hardship."

The suit names Mayor Mark Vogel, police Chief Michael Kresich and Councilman Charles Arthrell.
