The suspect in a Northview Heights killing was arrested in West Homestead early Tuesday, police said.

Paul “Peanut” Kendrick, 19, of Northview Heights, faces charges of homicide and conspiracy in the Aug. 1 shooting death of 21-year-old Maurice Freeman.

Pittsburgh police wrote in a criminal complaint that Mr. Freeman played basketball with a group of about four other people early Aug. 1.

About 1 a.m., police said, two men with guns approached them and one said, “If you ain’t from Northview, you gotta die.”

The group left and a short while later, one person in the neighborhood told police, 10 to 12 shots rang out, and it sounded as if they came from two guns, according to the complaint.

Mr. Freeman yelled. He died at the scene on Hazlett Street.

Pittsburgh public safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler said in a news release that West Homestead police arrested Mr. Kendrick about 2:30 a.m.
