Victim in fatal Northview Heights shooting identified

A 21-year-old man was fatally shot at a Northview Heights housing complex early this morning, police said.

The Allegheny County medical examiner’s office identified the man as Maurice Freeman of Northview Heights.

Pittsburgh police said Mr. Freeman was shot at least once in the chest during the shooting at the 100 block of Hazlett Street shortly after 1 a.m.

He was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in critical condition and later died, police said. The motive for the shooting is unclear and police said they have no suspects.
