Former Pittsburgh public safety director Michael Huss was passed over for a job as Boston’s fire commissioner.

Mr. Huss, 46, was among three finalists recommended to Boston Mayor Martin Walsh to lead a fire bureau with about 1,400 employees.

Mr. Walsh selected Boston Deputy Fire Chief Joseph E. Finn to take the job. Mr. Huss continues to work for Pittsburgh as the new administration transitions but does not have a formal job title, said Tim McNulty, spokesman for Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto.
