A trial Sept. 29 in Allegheny County Common Pleas Orphans’ Court will consider whether Urban Redevelopment Authority deed restrictions apply in a proposed sale of the August Wilson Center for African American Culture, among related issues.
If applicable, the covenants could prevent the sale of the debt-ridden center to 980 Liberty Partners. The New York developer intends to build a luxury hotel on top of the facility and provide space to the center for operations and programming.
Dollar Bank, which is owed $7.9 million plus interest and costs, plans to put up the property for sheriff sale on Oct. 6 unless it is sold before that time.
