Autopsy scheduled for Allentown gunshot victim

A spokesman for the Allegheny County medical examiner identified the 44-year-old man who died at 2:26 a.m. today at UPMC Mercy from an apparent gunshot wound as Derrick Miles of McKees Rocks. City police are investigating.

The medical examiner said he was transported to the hospital from an area near the intersection of Manton Way and Allen Street in the city's Allentown area.

A news release from the city public safety department said police were dispatched to the scene at 1:52 a.m. after emergency dispatchers received a report that a man had been shot was was lying in the street next to a bicycle.

Paramedics attempted to revive him, but he was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said their investigation revealed that the man had gotten into an argument with at least one other person outside Stretches Bar, a tavern on East Warrington Avenue where he was shot. An autopsy to determine the official cause of death will be performed tomorrow.
