Pittsburgh River Rescue personnel were called after a body was spotted south of the 40th Street Bridge this morning.
Pittsburgh River Rescue personnel were called to the 40th Street Bridge after a body was spotted in the Allegheny River this morning.
A county dispatch supervisor said the man’s body was seen under or near the bridge around 6:15 a.m. The county medical examiner's office is seeking dental records for the man, who was wearing swim trunks and a T-shirt, but had not yet identified him as of 10:30 a.m.
Emergency crews had been working since July 4 to find an elderly man who was putting markers in a shallow area of the Allegheny River and was swept away by the water current near O'Hara.
Over the weekend, police found only debris in the river after 911 dispatch received a call reporting a body in the water.
It was not immediately clear whether the earlier incident and the discovery this morning are related.
