Oakland resident detains suspected intruder with prop gun

An Oakland resident managed to stall an accused burglar who entered his home without his permission Sunday afternoon -- with a prop gun.

The incident happened around 11:30 a.m. on the 200 block of Ophelia Street, according to Pittsburgh public safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler.

Ms. Toler said the 24-year-old resident had been playing a video game with headphones on when the door to the room he was in opened and an someone he did not know came in.

When the resident asked the man what he was there for, the man asked for someone the resident did not recognize. The resident then used a prop gun to hold the intruder until police arrived, Ms. Toler said.

The accused burglar was identified as Kymarr Freeman, 23, of Oakland. He has been charged with burglary, criminal trespassing and possession of a criminal instrument, Ms. Toler said.

Mr. Freeman is to appear in court on July 7.
