Seth Beckman has been appointed dean of Duquesne University’s Mary Pappert School of Music, university officials said today. The move is effective Aug. 18.

Mr. Beckman succeeds Edward Kocher, who has been dean since 2000. Mr. Kocher is returning to teaching full time, officials said

“It is a distinct honor and privilege to have been selected,” Mr. Beckman said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “It’s a comprehensive, highly successful school with an enormous amount of potential for the future.”

Mr. Beckman is a professor of music and senior associate dean in the College of Music at Florida State University. He has held that position since 2002.

Prior to that, he was assistant director for enrollment management and student services at the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) School of Music and was an associate and assistant professor of music at Bemidji State University, according to Duquesne officials.
