A 3-year-old was hit by a stolen SUV in California-Kirkbride tonight and was taken in stable condition to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh with a broken leg, Pittsburgh police said.
Public safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler said a Ford Escape hit the child, who ran into the street. The incident was reported at 7:10 p.m. in the 1700 block of Brighton Place, an Allegheny County emergency dispatch supervisor said.
The driver will not be charged in the crash, she said, as "it appears he did not cause the accident."
He will, however, be charged in connection with the stolen vehicle, she said. She did not release the man's name, but said he is in his 20s..
All other details are pending, she said.
Police at the scene also said they were investigating possible cocaine and heroin found in the vehicle.
