A pedestrian was hit by a Port Authority bus Downtown this afternoon, a spokesman said.

The 61D Murray bus was traveling inbound on Sixth Avenue around 5:05 p.m., when it hit a woman who "was apparently walking alongside or next to the bus" near the intersection with Smithfield Street, Port Authority spokesman Jim Ritchie said.

"I think it's too early to say exactly what happened," he said.

The woman was transported by ambulance to UPMC Mercy. Mr. Ritchie said he did not know her condition.

Sixth Avenue between Grant and Smithfield streets is closed.
