The Mon Incline was shut down this morning for an unscheduled replacement of one of its two cables, and likely will remain closed for about a week, Port Authority announced.

An inspection Monday night revealed abnormal wearing on one of the two cables attached to the cars. One cable moves the cars; the second is a safety cable, which was the one that needs to be replaced, authority spokesman Jim Ritchie said.

Shuttle buses will operate between the upper station on Grandview Avenue on Mount Washington and the base station near Station Square until the incline reopens.
