Prosecutors today dropped a charge of tampering with evidence against a mother of twin 19-year-old sons accused of attempted homicide.

Margaret Mannion, 57, of Greenfield was arrested hours after a July 21 shooting. Police found her burning what appeared to be the handle of a gun on a stove, according to a criminal complaint.

However, during a hearing this morning before Common Pleas Judge Anthony M. Mariani, Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Arnette said her office was dismissing the case.

According to the crime lab report, there were no traces of a firearm in the material Ms. Mannion melted down, and prosecutors said other evidentiary issues would have precluded them from sustaining their burden.

Ms. Mannion's sons, Brian and Ryan Kelly, are not yet scheduled for trial.
