A man shot and paralyzed in 2010 died this week in hospice care and his death has been ruled a homicide, the Allegheny County medical examiner's office said today.

Kent Hall, 56, of the Hill District, died at ManorCare in Shadyside around noon Monday. After an autopsy Tuesday, the medical examiner's office determined that Mr. Hall died from complications of a gunshot wound to the trunk and labeled his death a homicide.

Mr. Hall became quadriplegic after he was shot once while standing outside in the 2100 block of Bentley Drive about 2 p.m. March 3, 2010. The case was handled at the time by officers from the city's Zone 2 station in the Hill District, who were unable to find witnesses to speak about the shooting, Major Crimes Lt. Daniel Herrmann said.

No arrests were made.

Detectives from the city's homicide unit will now take over the case.
