A 16-year-old Knoxville boy shot by his friend while they were playing a game with a loaded gun Saturday evening died two days later.

Kenneith Lampkin died Monday at UPMC Mercy, where he was taken after the incident at his home on Zara Street, according to the Allegheny County medical examiner's office.

Pittsburgh public safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler said the friend, Joseph Robinson Jr., 16, has been charged as an adult with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, tampering with evidence and a firearms violation.

The friends were playing "army" with a loaded gun when Joseph accidentally shot Kenneith, she said.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday. It was not immediately clear whether the assault charge would be upgraded to homicide.
