A Beaver Falls woman died in a one-car accident in the Strip District this morning when her vehicle struck a telephone pole, the Allegheny County medical examiner’s office reported.

Melissa Tates, 34, was pronounced dead at UPMC Mercy at 7:45 a.m. She sustained blunt force trauma in the crash of her four-door sedan at the intersection of Liberty Avenue and 17th Street, an investigator said. There were no passengers in the vehicle.

The coroner’s report said Ms. Tates had been seen driving erratically on Liberty Avenue, and the road was wet at the time of the accident.
