The Hot Metal Bridge had to be closed late Thursday night after a barge struck the span.

An Allegheny County emergency dispatch supervisor confirmed that the bridge, which connects Second Avenue in Hazelwood/Oakland to the South Side, was closed off to traffic beginning around 11:45 p.m.

The bridge has reopened after Pittsburgh River Rescue crews inspected the span for any damage.

The barge was heading up the Mon River when it hit the bridge, according to emergency officials.
