Pittsburgh police removed a child and a dog from a house in Homewood this morning after they responded to a call for a domestic dispute and the suspect ran away.

Officers from the city's Zone 5 station in Highland Park were called to the 7000 block of Monticello Street about 6:30 a.m. for a report of a fight between a man and a woman, police said.

When they arrived, police said, they found a 6-year-old boy with a minor injury and took him to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC for an evaluation.

When officers went inside the home, they found a dog that appeared malnourished and had left feces on some floors, police said.

Zone 5 officers expect social workers at the hospital to coordinate with representatives from Allegheny County Children, Youth and Families who should care for the child and whether he may return to the home. Police are working to obtain a warrant for the man who ran away.
